Welcome to Spoon With Me!

I’m Jenny Morgenthaler, the creator of this happy little corner of the internet, and I’m so happy you’re here!

I geek out about growing my own food, and love spending long hours connecting with my little patch of nature as I tend my garden.  I love the process of creating–food, art, writing, music, you name it! I’m at my happiest when I’m creating! I take all my own photos and love capturing the details of beautiful ingredients, especially the ones I have grown myself.  Food is one of the most beautiful and pleasurable things about being human, so let’s have fun with it!

“Out of Limitations Comes Creativity”

I’m a chronic cancer “thriver” and eating well is a big part of what helps my body (and mind) stay healthy amidst the challenges that ongoing cancer treatment puts on my system.

I want to show you that even if you have dietary restrictions, you can still cook and eat healthy, colorful soul-satisfying food!

I love finding ninja ways to revamp “forbidden” dairy-laden favorites so that I can eat them, and encourage people to improvise and color outside the lines on recipes to make them their own.

The Foods you Love, that Love you Back!

For those of us not blessed with iron-clad bellies for whatever reason, healthy eating can be a moving target.  My tagline, “Foods you love that love you back” doesn’t mean the same thing for any two people, or even for the same person at various times.  It means listening to your body and figuring out what it needs to be healthy at any given time, and still finding ways to make and eat beautiful food that excites you!

I believe that an overall healthy pattern of eating whole foods and healthy carbs and proteins is sustainable for a long-term.  You’ll most likely never see me touting a specific diet as “the one” because fad diets come and go, but eating food close to the earth with lots of fruits and vegetables never goes out of style!

Most of my recipes (besides the oldest in the archives) are dairy free, and many are gluten-free,  vegan and egg-free. I eat mostly vegan, but leave a little wiggle room to eat good quality poultry and fish if my body tells me it needs it.

The Regulars

Two personalities frequently grace my kitchen.  Peder, often referred to around here as “The Mister” is my handsome food taster, copy editor, sous chef, technologist, oh, and husband.   And then there’s my 10 year old wheaten terrier Luca, who is my muppet-like garden and kitchen companion who entertains me as I cook.

Drop me a hello!

I love “spooning” with you, so feel free to leave a comment  if you have a question or just want to say “hi”!
